Consumers are becoming more aware of the impact that they have on the environment and are prepared to take personal responsibility to try to reduce some of the damage that is caused by their lifestyles. The scarcity of resources to cope with waste that we generate is putting pressure on the systems for disposing of it. Composting is becoming an increasingly important method of managing waste and can make a significant contribution towards solving these problems.

A biodegradable product is one that breaks down relatively quickly, by biological means. This is the action that takes place in a compost heap which is nature's natural method of recycling waste products. However, some products can be biodegradable but they are not classed as compostable in environmental terms because they may contain chemicals that are harmful to nature and so cannot be returned safely to the earth. This is why the term 'biodegradable' is one of the most widely misused and misunderstood buzz words of the environmental debate.

This is particularly important when it comes to packaging. Any material that comes from nature will return to nature as long as it is still in a relatively natural form. Therefore any plant, animal or natural mineral based product has the ability to biodegrade and compost, but those made from man-made petrochemical compounds generally do not. PRODUCT LIFECYCLE
Oil palm trees have long been harvested for their valueable fruits. After the fruits have been harvested, the empty food bunch is utilizedto make our range of biodegradable, compostable products.
The large fruit bunches can obtain up to 3000 fruitlets and are harvested all year round. The abundant fibrous masses of the fruit bunches (EFB) used to be incinerated – having a negative impact on the environment.

STANDARDS

Our Packaging is produced in conformity with the European Standard EN-13432 and is biodegradable to such an extent that the greatest part of the resulting compost will ultimately decompose within 80 days.

We hold the high 'A' grade (Risk Category: High Hygiene) rating in the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standards for Packaging and Packaging Materials (Issue 6) and ISO 9001 (2015) Standard.

CERTIFICATIONS

BRC Global Standards is a leading safety and quality certification programme, used by over 21,000 suppliers in 90 countries. The standards guarantee the standardization of quality, safety and operational criteria in order to ensure that manufacturers fulfil their legal obligations and provide protection for the end consumer.

The stringent requirements of the programme mean that BRC Global Standards are now very often a fundamental requirement of leading retailers. An annual audit is undertaken as part of our continuing commitment to ensure its products are manufactured to strict international standards.
